Time is about to Turn on its Hinge and Become Eternity.
“Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, surrounded by a cloud, with a rainbow over his head. His face shone like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire. And in his hand was a small scroll that had been opened. He stood with his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. And he gave a great shout like the roar of a lion. And when he shouted, the seven thunders answered.” – REVELATION 10:1-3.
The terrors of the trumpets focus on the wicked (Rev. 9:4, 20, 21), but the “interlude” (Rev. 10:1–11:13) focuses on God’s people. The “interlude,” however, is not separate from the trumpets; it is part of the sixth trumpet. Revelation 8:13 describes three woes coming upon those who live on the earth. The first is the fifth trumpet (Rev. 9:12). The second woe is the sixth trumpet, but it does not end until Revelation 11:14. So the bulk of chapters 10 and 11 are part of the sixth trumpet. While the forces of evil are gathering for the final crisis during the sixth trumpet (Rev. 9:16), the forces of the righteous are gathering to counter them (Rev. 7:4, Rev. 10:1–11:13).
The Greek word for angel “angelos” simply means “messenger.” Usually a “supernatural messenger.” Angels in Revelation represent a message that people are to receive. Sometimes the message is given to a single individual, and, at other times, it is given to the whole world.
In Revelation 14 we will see three angels who have a worldwide message. The angel in chapter 18 illuminates the whole world by his message. This angel in the 10th chapter is no different.
His left foot is on the land and his right foot is on the sea, indicating that his message is to be worldwide in its scope.
The ‘rainbow’ on his head, face like the sun and feet like pillars of fire’ (v2) are the same characteristics we find describing Jesus in Revelation 1. Many commentators see this mighty angel (messenger) as a reference to Jesus. There are strong parallels to the one “like a son of man” in Rev 1:12-20. The angel seems to be the same figure who appeared to John on Patmos. Like the Old Testament Yahweh, he makes the clouds His chariot (Psalm 104:3). His appearance is also reminiscent of the way Jesus looked at His transfiguration in Matt 17:2. So this mighty angel represents Jesus Christ Himself, come to deliver a message to His covenant people in the last days. As the Lamb, Jesus held the sealed scroll in Revelation 5, as a mighty angel(messenger) here, He holds an open scroll. He is the most admirable person who has ever walked this earth!
His right foot on the sea and His left on the land shows the universal nature of this message. A lion’s roar symbolizes God’s voice (See Hosea 11:10, Rev 5:5). The Lion and the Lamb! As we have seen in the 7 churches, the 7 seals and the 7 trumpets, through the play and counter play of human history, God is the master player, silently and patiently working out His will.
The tide of the almighty is slowly ebbing and flowing towards the consummation of all things. Time will soon turn on its hinge and become eternity. This is the longing in my heart, to be beyond this world of sin and suffering and enjoying the ceaseless ages of eternity, free of the curse! (Revelation 22:3). This verse declares there was no longer any curse!
This is my longing to be ready to share Eternity where there is no longer sin or curses God bless our families during this day 🙏
